Tuna Fudge Treats!

Finding a healthy, high value food reinforcer for your dogs can be hard. Many store bought treats are filled with additives, preservatives and other nasties. So making your own at home is a great alternative, it means you know exactly what you are giving your dog! Here is one of my favourite ideas for training treats.

These silicone oven mats from Kmart make perfect, bite sized training treats! http://www.kmart.com.au/product/silicone-oven-tray/708903

I've been making up 'tuna/salmon fudge' and spreading it onto these mats to make delicious, healthy treats for my dogs.

The recipe I use is as follows:

  • 300gram Tuna/Salmon in Springwater (use the Springwater in the mix)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/4 cup cheese

  • 1/4 cup coconut flour

  • 3 tablespoons of flax seed (optional)

  • Some water if necessary (the mix should be like a heavy batter NOT like dough)

Method

  • Blitz ingredients together in a food processor.

  • Spread onto mats with a spatula.

  • Cook in the oven on 180°C for 15 minutes.

Done! This recipe makes just over 1200 treats! (2 and a bit mats)

You can substitute any type of meat mince (chicken and turkey are both great options) for the fish if you like, you will just need to add water to the recipe.

If you want to switch from coconut flour to another flour you will need to use more flour as coconut flour is very absorbent. ______________________________________________

So far these have gotten the lick of approval from not just my dogs but clients dogs too!

Give it a try!
